LED Strip Lights offer a number of advantages over more traditional luminaires. Some of these are generic to LED technology, while others are exclusive to LED Strips. This article will outline a few of the reasons thousands of customers are introducing LED Strip Lighting into their homes.
Like all LED technology, LED Strip Lights use considerably less electricity in their operation. Electrical consumption is measured in watts and charged for by electricity companies on a killowatt per hour (kWh) basis. Naturally, the fewer watts you use, the less you pay on your electricity bills.
The consumption of LED Strips is calculated on a per metre basis. A typical metre of LEDS will use about 7.2 watts in power, compared to a fluorescent tube, which uses about 15.

LEDs are able to replicate a much large portion of the light spectrum than traditional lights. At their most basic these offer no less than 16 static colours and 4 dynamic modes. At their most advanced they can be used with DMX systems to create breathtaking stage-worthy displays.
Another name for LEDs is Solid State Lighting (SSL). SSL literally means that unlike filament and fluorescent bulbs, which buzz, vibrate and shake as electricity moves through them, LEDs remain completely immoveable. For this reason, LEDs have a much greater life expectancy than traditional luminaires, and can continue working for many years without fault.
Perhaps the defining feature of LED Strip Lights, their flexibility truly sets them apart. Traditional luminaires were housed inside glass enclosures which were fragile and inflexible. In contrast, with LED Strip Lights, the LEDs are mounted to a flexible "ribbon" of circuit board, which is durable enough to be bent around 90 degree corners and attach to gradiented surfaces.
Concealed or hidden light schemes are those where the light fixture itself remains hidden and only the light it emits can be seen. LED Strip Lights lend themselves well to this type of lighting as they have a very compact design and will fit most places that other types of lighting cannot. One of the principle issues with halogen and incandescent bulbs is that they generate a lot of heat during use, making them a potential fire hazard. LED Strips produce comparatively little heat, making them safer to use and less of a risk.
Installing strip lights is extremely easy and requires very little expertise. LED Strip Lights can be connected to a normal power outlet, or wired directly into a light switch. Moreover, a 3M self adhesive backing also means they can be stuck straight down on to a surface without the need for mounts or brackets. Even if they don't have this adhesive, installing brackets is still very easy and far less hassle than installing a fluorescent tube for example.
LED Strip Lights are one of the few types of lighting in existence that can be cut. To many people this notion seems absurd, but cutting strip lights is both safe and easy achieved. They feature cutting points every 5 or 10 cm along their length which can used to shorten or seperate strips. Solderless connections can be used for easy re-connection, or you can ask your retailer to do the work for you.
One of the most frequently voiced complaints about LEDs is their high upfront cost. While it is difficult for us to deny that they are more expensive than their halogen or fluorescent counterparts, it is also worth noting that the rate of return on investment is incredibly high. Furthermore, as the demand for LEDs increases and the manufacturing process improves, the price tag is expected to come down.
